GREAT BRITISH PIE WEEK
March 08, 2017
We have been thinking about making a fruit pie for a while now, sometimes you just can't beat a warm apple pie with lots of vanilla ice cream! So when we found out that this week is National Pie week, obviously we had to get on with it! New research actually reveals that 75% of people enjoy a pie at least a month.
We have been having a look around the internet for some pie inspiration and we've saved everything on a Pinterest board, so check that out if you want some Piespiration too!
We decided to share with you some of our favourite recipes from the board, there are some incredible flavour combinations and some stunning pie crusts! We're going to use some of these ideas and our own to create ultimate pie perfection!
Apple Pie |
A classic Apple Pie is sometimes the best kind of pie, especially when served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. This recipe looks amazing with flavours of cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla alongside the apple filling and also brushed on top to make beautiful, flavourful golden brown pastry.
Cherry and Apple Pie |
This pie is absolutely beautiful! The combination of braided and different widths of pastry makes a really cute lattice work top especially when decorated with flowers and leaves. The cherries in this pie give this apple pie a really unique twist!
Blackberry and Apple Pie |
The winter berries give this apple pie a really exciting flavour, and the addition of ginger makes it sound even more delicous!
Vegan Salted Caramel and Apple Pie |
I'm sure you all probably know by now, but we love salted caramel, so the idea of a caramel and apple pie makes our mouths water!
Strawberry and Rhubarb Pie |
Rhubarb desserts are one of our favourites in summer time. We think that adding strawberries to this pie will add an amazing sweetness to the delicious tangy flavours of the rhubarb.
Rhubarb and Amaretti Pie |
This pie is essentially a rhubarb pie topped with amaretti biscuits and sprinkled with almonds. We think this sounds like an interesting but very delicious combo!
Fig, Raspberry and Cardamom Pie |
We love the cut out heart decoration of this pie, it's so cute! The flavours in this pie are very unusual, but we think it sounds worth a try.
Apricot and Raspberry Pie |
Just the look of this pie makes us hungry, the orange from the apricot and the pink from the raspberry is just beautiful, and we are 100% sure that it would taste amazing too! This is definitely one we want to try, the soft and sweet apricots will be divine mixed with the slightly tart raspberries with crunchy seeds.
Caramel, Pear and Pecan Pie |
Another absolutely beautiful pie, we love the rustic look of this one. The caramel, pear and pecan flavours are definitely going to be a gorgeous combination.
Triple Berry Pie |
This is definitely one of the prettiest pies on the list. The photography of this post is insanely beautiful so even if you're not thinking of making the pie, then you should still go over and check out the imagery! The triple berry filling looks and sounds divine, you can never have too many berries.
Decorative Pie Crust Tips |
Oh my goodness, how amazing is the decoration on this pie! Absolute pastry precision!
Of course, even though we have only listed sweet pies, there are all types of pie including delicious savoury ones too. And as stereotypical northerners, sometimes we love nothing more than a nice pie with a pile of fluffy mash and gravy!
Look out for this weekends post for an apple pie with a delicious twist!
