Merry Christmas everyone!
It's almost Christmas and we are drinking as much mulled wine as possible before it goes out of stock! Why don't they just sell it all year round?
If you haven't seen our Mulled Wine Cupcakes post then you should definitely go and check it out! We made an incredible mulled wine syrup to go into the cupcakes and ended up with quite a lot left over! So we thought why not combine two of our favourite drinks to make an incredibly festive Mulled Wine Gin and Tonic!
Ingredients...
For the Mulled Wine Syrup...
2/3 bottle of Mulled Wine
1/2 cup caster sugar
For the G&T...
Gin
Gin
Tonic
Ice
Ice
Orange
Cinnamon sticks
Cranberries (optional)
You will need to start by making the syrup (unless you have already made our Mulled Wine cupcakes and already have it ready!) For this, place the mulled wine and sugar in a pan on a medium heat and bring to the boil. Once boiling, turn down to a low heat and leave to simmer for around 40 minutes. Set this aside to cool and thicken. Ideally you may want to make this a few hours earlier or even the day before - nobody wants a warm Gin and Tonic!
Once your syrup is cool you can make the cocktail. Start by adding a generous spoonful of the mulled wine syrup to a glass, add a measure of gin and a squeeze of orange into the glass. Give this a mix to make sure the syrup doesn't just sink to the bottom, then top with tonic. Add a few ice cubes, then garnish with the cinnamon stick, another orange slice and a few cranberries for a super festive Gin and Tonic.
This is a fabulous drink for the festive season and a perfect way to use the mulled wine syrup if you have previously made our Mulled Wine Cupcakes ~ v. highly recommended! It's a beautiful gin and tonic that's spicy but sweet. A divine Christmas cocktail for all, whether your hosting a Christmas party or having a cosy, winter night in!
